چکیده

Many real-world applications involve multilabel classification, in which the labels are organized in the form of a tree or directed acyclic graph (DAG). However, current research efforts typically ignore the label dependencies or can only exploit the dependencies in tree-structured hierarchies. In this paper, we present a novel hierarchical multilabel classification algorithm which can be used on both treeand DAG-structured hierarchies. The key idea is to formulate the search for the optimal consistent multi-label as the finding of the best subgraph in a tree/DAG. Using a simple greedy strategy, the proposed algorithm is computationally efficient, easy to implement, does not suffer from the problem of insufficient/skewed training data in classifier training, and can be readily used on large hierarchies. Theoretical results guarantee the optimality of the obtained solution. Experiments are performed on a large number of functional genomics data sets. The proposed method consistently outperforms the state-of-the-art method on both treeand DAG-structured hierarchies.

IN-DEDUCTIVE and DAG-Tree Approaches for Large-Scale Extreme Multi-label Hierarchical Text Classification

This paper presents a large-scale extreme multilabel hierarchical text classification method that employs a large-scale hierarchical inductive learning and deductive classification (IN-DEDUCTIVE) approach using different efficient classifiers, and a DAG-Tree that refines the given hierarchy by eliminating nodes and edges to generate a new hierarchy. We evaluate our method on the standard hierar...

Multi-label Classification for Tree and Directed Acyclic Graphs Hierarchies

Hierarchical Multi-label Classification (HMC) is the task of assigning a set of classes to a single instance with the peculiarity that the classes are ordered in a predefined structure. We propose a novel HMC method for tree and Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAG) hierarchies. Using the combined predictions of locals classifiers and a weighting scheme according to the level in the hierarchy, we selec...

Chained Path Evaluation for Hierarchical Multi-Label Classification

In this paper we propose a novel hierarchical multi-label classification approach for tree and directed acyclic graph (DAG) hierarchies. The method predicts a single path (from the root to a leaf node) for tree hierarchies, and multiple paths for DAG hierarchies, by combining the predictions of every node in each possible path. In contrast with previous approaches, we evaluate all the paths, tr...

Notes on hierarchical ensemble methods for DAG-structured taxonomies

Several real problems ranging from text classification to computational biology are characterized by hierarchical multi-label classification tasks. Most of the methods presented in literature focused on tree-structured taxonomies, but only few on taxonomies structured according to a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG). In this contribution novel classification ensemble algorithms for DAG-structured ta...

Structured Prediction by Conditional Risk Minimization

We propose a general approach for supervised learning with structured output spaces, such as combinatorial and polyhedral sets, that is based on minimizing estimated conditional risk functions. Given a loss function defined over pairs of output labels, we first estimate the conditional risk function by solving a (possibly infinite) collection of regularized least squares problems. A prediction ...
